Job Description

The intermediate lighting artist contributes to the visual aspect of shots by applying lighting setups that enhance storytelling, mood, and visual consistency. They work more independently and collaborate with various departments to ensure successful shot delivery.

Production:

  • Illuminate and render the shots using established lighting setups and tools.
  • Ensure consistent lighting across shots and sequences, in accordance with look development and compositing.
  • Follow the lighting instructions provided by the leads and supervisors. Integrate 3D elements while maintaining consistency in lighting, colors, and atmosphere.
  • Maintain clean and well-organized scene files. Implement feedback and corrections quickly and accurately.
  • Demonstrate motivation to learn and progress in a production environment

Management:

  • Communicating effectively with the compositing, shading, and conform teams
  • Request support in case of technical or creative blockage
  • Participate in reviews and provide feedback on the visual aspect and integration.

Qualifications

  • Solid proficiency with lighting tools and rendering engines (e.g., Katana, Maya, Arnold, etc.). Good understanding of lighting theory, shading, and render passes. Ability to independently resolve rendering or lighting issues.
  • Good artistic sense of light, color, and composition
  • Team spirit and attention to detail
  • Good knowledge of Nuke (or other node-based compositing software)
  • Basic knowledge of English (spoken and written)

Optional skills:

  • Good understanding of rendering engines (Arnold, Renderman, Redshift, etc.)
  • Experience with ShotGrid or equivalent
  • Good understanding of the principles of photography, lighting, and color

Additional information

The successful candidate will work closely with our Paris studio in a bilingual environment, as well as with our international partners, talent, and clients. They will regularly participate in discussions with non-French-speaking stakeholders, in the context of productions, internal presentations, and strategic communications aimed at promoting Mikros Animation’s creative and technical capabilities globally.
