The American Revolutionary War began in April of 1775, at a time when Americans were unhappy with the British ruling of the colonies, and started wanting independence from Great Britain. This hostility towards the country was furthered in 1776 with the publication of Thomas Paine’s pamphlet titled “Common Sense”.

From the beginning, fourth of July celebrations have taken the shape of concerts, bonfires and parades, as well as the public readings of the Declaration of Independence. The first annual Independence Day celebrations were held in Philadelphia on July 4th 1777, even though the war was still taking place.

Funding updates

Our National Lottery Film Festival and Screening Program Fund is now open for applications. The revised fund aims to support organizations that want to produce film festivals and screening programs in Scotland for a public audience. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with deadlines for submission depending on when your activity takes place.

South Arts Awards Over $530k
Through Recent Grant Programs
 
Announcing the latest recipients of Presentation Grants, Traditional Arts Touring Grants, and Jazz Road Tours.
South Arts is pleased to announce the newest recipients of three grantmaking programs: Presentation Grants, Traditional Arts Touring Grants, and Jazz Road Tours. These programs support the presenting and touring of artists, either assisting organizations with artists' fees or directly supporting the artists themselves. Among the newest cohort of recipients, a total of $530,755 has been awarded to 102 organizations and artists.
 
The Film Fund
  All you need is a log line for this super easy grant application! Providing funding up to $10,000 per project for short films in a way that's a lot simpler than screenwriting contests, crowdfunding, or applying to grants, because we're sick of seeing these funding avenues dominated by industry experts.   Submit Now

Roy W. Dean Film Grants

  There are three Roy W. Dean Film Grants available each year for documentaries, narrative features, web series, and short films.  

Beginning in 2021, there will also be one Roy W. Dean Short Film Grant which is exclusively for short films (does not include short non-fiction documentaries or web series).

The Moving Picture Institute's Rising Filmmaker Program supports filmmakers who are committed to developing and producing marketable projects about human freedom.

Catapult is shifting to a two-step application process. Applicants must first submit a Letter of Intent (LOI). After an internal review, selected projects will be invited to submit the full application for funding consideration.

  • October 10, 2023: LOI Application Opens on Submittable
  • November 3, 2023: LOI Deadline at 5 p.m. PT
  • Late November: Full Application Invitations Sent
  • February 2024: Grantees notified
  • March 2024: Grantees announced
  • March - September 2024: Program commitment
